I had fun putting this blog together but stopped posting when I saw little more need for it. Since I started blogging has become mainstream for TLs and libraries and the emergence of Wikis, Twittering, Social Networking Sites and availability of RSS feeds.

As retirement looms I have decided to put this blog to bed. My blogging will continue with Men at Work and Geniaus.

Dr Belle Alderman has been appointed Member of the Order of Australia for her services to children's literature as a researcher and mentor to emerging writers and illustrators.

Dr Alderman developed and now manages the Lou Rees Archives for Australian Children's Literature.

"It enables authors, illustrators, writers, publishers and others to have a place they can direct people to come and do research," she said.

"We have people from all over the world that visit the Lou Rees Archives."

A long car trip on the weekend (as a passenger) gave me the opportunity to read the Costa Award Winner in the children's category (plus two other great books). The book was engaging, believable and beautifully written - I enjoyed it immensely although I now wonder about it being in the children's category(Books for 8-14 year olds in the Costa Awards) as incest is one of its major themes - it is definitely for readers at the upper age of the category. I had placed the book in my children's fiction collection but will be moving it to senior fiction on my return to work.

Literary Lunch

I had the pleasure of hearing Susan Duncan talk about her book Salvation Creek at a lunch at Pasadena on Pittwater last Friday. Susan, a former media high flier, gave up her exciting life for the peace of Pittwater after the two important men in her life died withn days of each other. Susan bares her soul as she chronicles her journey in Salvation Creek, a well written and easy to read story.

LT06 Conference

I enjoyed the recent Sydney conference at Pymble Ladies College hosted by Commander. I particularly enjoyed the presentation by Kevin Richardson (although I had heard most of it at the AIS IT Managers Conference in June). The most useful session for me was from Paul Stewart of Whitefriars College who presented a range of practical, economical and simple tools that can be used in a range of curriculum areas. He referred us to a paper Connectivism:A Learning Theoryfor the Digital Age that is worthy reading and discussion.

The Intermittent Blogger

I'm getting caught up with Web 2.0 and have been playing with lots of tools. Ihave been tagging madly and have tagged 25,000 photos with the free download of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter a nifty tool that is very easy to use. I've created and played with a number of online products. I don't think I will use Myspace and Bebo too much. Although I find Youtube amusing my home videos won't be going there.

With my Wikipedia account I have been editing a few articles about which I have some knowledge. I have found the editing task relatively easy. I've put some photos on Flickr and have tagged all my favourite websites with Del.icio.us, which is very useful when using multiple computers.

Bloglines saves me heaps of time by providing an easy to use interface that aggregates online news, blogs, comics and newsgroups for me.

Chris Riddell and Paul Stewart

We were lucky enough to have this visiting English author/illustrator duo, creators of The Edge Chronicles, visit our school last week to address the students. The students were mesmerised by the visitors who spoke of the process they go through to produce their works and then answered questions from the students. While Paul spoke Chris made a sketch of one of his characters.

AIS Integrators' Conference

I am presently in a blogging session at Wenona with Martin Pluss from Tara Anglican School so I am demonstrating my practical skills by posting. At the conference there has been a range of presentations of interest to those responsible for ICT in schools.
